I've thought long and hard about defining a grace-filled classroom. It's the name of my blog after all! I should have an idea, right?
I strongly believe though, that what it means for me and what it means for you could be different things. I've come to the conclusion that there might not be one right answer. Below are some ideas that I have.
It's a classroom where…
- the teacher and students are working together to create a positive learning environment in which hearts and minds are being nurtured
- at the end of the day, the teacher hasn't eaten the students
- learning and building each other up is more important than results.
- the little milestones and small growth improvements are celebrated just as much as the big gains
- building your students' character is valued
- seeing your students as little people that need be loved and cared for daily and seeking to help them grow
The most important thing to realize is that a grace-filled classroom isn't perfect or just meant for one or two teachers. You can create a grace-filled classroom when you have the right mindset! It's a way of living and accepting that our classrooms are imperfect. In fact… a grace-filled classroom is perfectly imperfect!
For me, a grace-filled classroom is also accepting that being a teacher is a calling from God. He gives me the graces I need to be able to love and accept my students. To want what is best for them always and to care for them even when it is hard!
Not just anyone can do what we do! What we do makes a difference in our students' lives!
